The Still Just Before Spring

The branches are creaking under the weight of the recent storm of ice.  Some have been dropped from their high perches.  In the early light of dawn, there is the effect of crystal and glitter.  This is the calm just before the energy burst of spring.  The ice will begin to break apart.  You can literally hear the cracking and popping as the waters beneath churn to life and fight to break free.  Renovation will reach the shorelines as the ice makes its way over the rocks and sand to finally melt into oblivion.  The waters of spring are crisp and clear.  A sheet of glass hovering over the depths that let you gaze down farther than you could ever expect to be possible.  It's birth, and rebirth, and you're part of it, just as people have been part of the evolution of the lakes for centuries.  It's sacred, and if you rest in the stillness sincerely enough, you will feel your soul connect with those who also understand the moment, past, present, and future.

It's Okoboji Rising.  Many have been to these treasured shores, but few have actually taken the time to walk through the still.  Another chance is coming soon...
